Australian researchers led by Professor Lidia Moravska, director of the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health, accidentally discovered that printers emit large quantities of tiny particles that can potentially negatively affect the respiratory organs, cardiovascular system and even cause cancer, said MEMBRANA.
The particles were recorded, when scientists tested the effectiveness of ventilation to protect employees from the office of air pollution on the example of a large office, surrounded by roads.
Understood that dirt falls from the street: “We really did not expect to find anything from domestic sources of pollution, but soon found that much more dangerous domestic sources of external,” - said Moravska.
When it turned out that printers produce any particles, the researchers studied 62 printers and 17 of them were recognized as “emitter.” And a printer particles produced in quantities comparable to “emission” of a cigarette emitting smoke. However, 37 printers were absolutely safe.
Scientists report that the largest number of particles produced printers when they zapravlen new cartridge with ink, and when used in printing a lot of ink.
The concentration of particles during working hours to five times higher than outside. According to Moravska, particles can get into the respiratory tract and then into the blood, and risks to the health of people sitting in the office she felt “very high”. In this connection, the researchers recommend that employers pay more attention to ventilation systems.
Meanwhile, further studies are needed because scientists do not yet know the chemical structure of particles and did not realize until the end, as they get into the air.
